Test course

The objective of the Open Educational Resources (OER) is to offer students comprehensive materials for self-studying Research Methodology in the Social Sciences. These OER are available in English, Spanish, and Catalan, providing students with a range of language options to access the content. By utilizing these resources, students can independently delve into the subject matter, enhancing their understanding of research methods in the social sciences. The diverse language options further cater to the needs of a broader student population, enabling a wider reach and fostering inclusive education.

Learning outcomes of the OER:

  1. Understanding of Research Design: Students should gain a comprehensive understanding of different research designs, including experimental, correlational, and qualitative approaches. They should be able to identify the strengths and limitations of each design and select the most appropriate one for a given research question.

  2. Ability to Formulate Hypotheses: Students should learn how to formulate clear and testable hypotheses. They should understand the importance of specifying variables, predicting relationships, and ensuring the hypotheses align with the research question.

  3. Proficiency in Data Collection Methods: Students should develop skills in selecting and implementing appropriate data collection methods, such as surveys, observations, interviews, or experiments. They should understand the principles of sampling, data reliability, and validity.

  4. Competence in Data Analysis: Students should learn how to analyze collected data using statistical or qualitative analysis techniques. They should be able to interpret and draw meaningful conclusions from the results, while also being aware of potential biases and limitations.

  5. Ethical Research Practices: Students should gain an understanding of ethical considerations in research, such as informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, and the responsible use of data. They should be able to design studies that adhere to ethical guidelines and handle ethical dilemmas appropriately.

  6. Critical Evaluation of Research: Students should develop the ability to critically evaluate scientific research papers and assess the quality of methodology, data analysis, and conclusions. They should be able to identify potential biases, flaws, or limitations in research studies.

  7. Effective Communication of Research: Students should enhance their skills in communicating research findings effectively. This includes presenting results in written or oral formats, using appropriate language and visual aids, and conveying complex information in a clear and concise manner.
